Myth Hunters is a graphic novel following a group of college kids traveling around the country as they set out to discover and prove the existence of all manner of cryptids and mysterious creatures.

The graphic novel was developed initially for a Narrative Workshop class while I was attending the University of Connecticut, but ended up taking on a life of its own. Currently, I am still working on the series and hope to start releasing full chapters soon.

This webpage aims to take you behind the scenes of my development process and show some of the work I have completed thus far.

Inspiration

The initial idea was inspired by a number of darker animated shows that focused on blending cartoon comedy with elements of horror, such as Scooby-Doo and Gravity Falls. The art style however, was more inspired by black and white graphic novels, as I always enjoyed these novels' reliance on shapes and recognizable character designs in order to get images across without color. BoneMaus and The Last Halloween are three examples that come to mind, all of which I highly recommend you give a read if you haven't already.

Character Concept Art

After conceptualizing the core idea, the next step was coming up with the characters. Below are a number of character concept art pieces and the step by step drawing process of how they were created.

Text

I spent a decent amount of time researching and experimenting with typography, trying to find the right style and font to best fit the environment I was trying to create in the story. This is an example of the text boards I was putting together.

Making Pages

After all of the prep work, I would then start making the pages of the graphic novel. Below is a visual representation of my drawing process when making pages as well as a few complete pages of the opening if you'd like to check them out!
